Did I Really Do This???

Yes I did....

So this summer I decided to take on a HUGE project.  I MEAN HUGE.  Back in May I started making my sorority T-Shirt quilt and today, September 5th, I finished.  It took me 4 long months, a couple of curse words and some new back cramps to finish this quilt.  Was it worth the stress and physical pain?  ABSOLUTELY!

Here is how it all went down....

Went through my stack of T-shirts from over the
4 years

Made a square Template

 Started cutting.
And kept cutting
and then cut some more
After cutting all of the ones that I chose, I laid them out into the pattern that I wanted

Admiral decided to chill in all of the scraps

Then I ironed all 25 squares and backed them with quilting backing.
Mom decided to make some flowers for one of my
blank  T-shirts

After all of the squares are backed, I sewed the green zebra fabric in between
(cue in a lot of mumbled naughty words while at the sewing machine)

Here is what the little flowers look like on the square

So now we are into August...

It's backing time.
Here we ironed on the quilt backing to make it smoochie

Bought some fabric for the back of the quilt

added some 3-D embellishments to add
some PIZZAZ

Decided to do a "tie" quilt since we don't have
a quilting machine to do fancy designs.
created the hem to sew down

 Sewed the hems...

AND VUALA!

MASTERPIECE!

I could not have done this on my own though,

Thank you mom for helping me!

The Sabbatical is Over

Grace and Peace

Today I overheard two of my friends talking about how you can't have Peace with out Grace and I thought about this comment all day. And when I REALLY got to think about the two terms and how they relate to me, I realized how true this is.

I have always "categorized" the two terms together, even though I knew that they had completely different definitions. So when this comment was made, a lot of things came clear to me.

So what do these terms really mean?
Well, Grace can be defined as to please, honor and adorn while Peace means to be obsolete, content and tranquil.

It is all so simple.  I can't be tranquil with my life until I can adorn Christ.

In my spare time

So, lately I have been full of spare time. For those of you who have been wondering and keep bugging asking me about my job hunt, I have no job yet.  You will know when I have a job.  The whole WORLD will know when I have a job because I will be screaming with Joy.  Anywho, to fill my spare time at the glorious place called....My parents house....I have tried to become crafty and pick up a new hobby, sewing.  Now, I have known how to hand stitch for as long as I can remember, but I have never really been able to master the craft of the sewing machine. There are just so many nooks and crannies that you have to remember so you can properly thread your needle and bob your bobbin.  So, I made a goal for myself this summer to really, I mean REALLY,  learn/teach myself how to use my mom's sewing machine.

My first project this summer was a pillow I made for my awesome forest green GoodWill love seat that I have.

The first step I did was dig through my mom's fabric scrap selection to find something that would work with the already bought pillow "mold thing" (this was actually old fabric from the backing of my high school  t-shirt quilt that we made)

Then I decided, since I already had the pillow, to make a three strip pillow.  So, I cut my fabric.  One piece (front piece) 19X19 and the other two pieces 12X19 (or something like that)

Then I rounded the edges to make the sewing easier and hems look a little bit better

After cutting the edges, I pinned the fabric so I would be ready to sew

Note: you always want to face the fabrics to each other so you can flip them over at the end.  Also with this style, you can see the gap above where you will stuff your pillow mold  (if you even care)

Next, you do the best you can to sew a straight line on all six sides.  This I am still working on, as you can see.

Finally you will stuff your mold in, and if you have any rope or other bulky decoration you can add it and have a pretty little pillow!

This is one way that I am filling my spare time.  But, I also have 4 more intricate pillows coming soon that include trim and only 2 pieces of fabric each.

Stay Tuned!!

Que Sera

This song has been stuck in my head now for a couple of days, so I thought that if i post it, then it will finally go away.

I love the movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and I love Doris Day.  But what I love most about this song is that it is true.  We can't go through life holding back because we are scared, sad, or whatever.  Life is about living, so live.  Do what YOU want to do and whatever happens, will happen!  You only live once, so live with no regrets.

Weddings and Reunions

So this past weekend I went to my friend Ashley's wedding.  Ashley and I have been friends since 7th grade and it was weird to think that she was the first of my good friends from high school to get married.  Though it was weird to watch, her wedding was so much fun!  She, like always, looked absolutely beautiful and seeing tons of old friends was a blast!!  I loved high school and some of my best friends have been in my life since Jr. High/High School.  So I thought that I would use this post as a flashback to some of the best times I had during grade school!

Some old cheer friends

Please don't shoot me Michelle, but this has always been my favorite picture of us!
